Van Gogh and the Funky Bunch

Dang, I was in a mood this morning. It was a mix of anger, frustration, sadness, and frigidness, all for no good reason. As I looked outside, there was nothing, no birds or critters, bare trees, dry, not even a breeze. I know the snow is coming. At least that will change the landscape. Meanwhile, I needed to shift.

Don’t look at me like that, yoga mat!

I looked over at my rolled-up yoga mat. It took giving myself a scolding to unroll it, but I did. Then I played two very specific songs back-to-back. I did as many sun salutations as I could for the first song. Then, I just let myself dance to the second. What were they? Oh, just Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch’s “Good Vibrations” and “Peace.”

Doesn’t she look like a yoga teacher?
One of these songs made it into a short story I wrote. Check out Chills Collection.

Then, I remembered some Van Gogh quotes that were shared with me this week. Obviously, this called for a rummage through my sock drawer to find my sunflower socks.

Shiloh likes it when I pet her with my feet. My little weirdo.

If you truly love Nature, you will find beauty everywhere.

So I returned to the window by my desk. Yes, the trees were bare, but further up, I could see the white bark of the Birch trees mingle with the grey-brown Oak branches against the solid blue backdrop. It reminded me of veins, or a map. It was beautiful. It is beautiful. A few more deep breaths and a cup of tea should turn my day around just right.

The beginning is perhaps more difficult than anything else, but keep heart, it will turn out all right.
